Following up my interview with Zeitgeist is an interview with another famous Youtube gamer and another of my favorites!

You can find the link to his channel at the bottom of this interview.

So without further rambling, here we are:

So, what’s the name of the person behind LotsofGames?

Jimmy

Married? Kids? pets?

I am married and have one daughter
Tell us a bit about yourself?
Just recently I got my bachelors in business management. I was hoping to take a short break from school but it looks like that is not going to happen anytime soon. I just started my MBA program last week. Currently I work at a surgical supply company and have been there for over eight years.
What made you first decide to start doing videos for Youtube?
When I first learned about youtube I was a little unsure about the whole thing. However, it did not take long before I started to upload videos. The main reason that I make videos for youtube is that I have a lot of fun and I have had the chance to talk with a lot of gamers from around the world.

How long have you been gaming and what got you into it?

When I was in 1st grade I got into a fight with one of my classmates. Our parents exchanged phone numbers and one day that kid who I got into a fight with gave me a call. During this phone call we both apologized for the altercation and I was invited to play some video games. Before I went over to this kids home I had never played or even seen a video game. It did not take long before I got into gaming. The nes is what got me really into gaming (along with the Turbo Grafx 16 and the Sega Genesis).

If you could choose to go see  one game in developement and get the exclusive first play, which game would it be and why?

I would love to take part in the development for Tales of Vesperia 2 (if it ever gets made). Tales of Vesperia for the Xbox 360 is a fantastic rpg. The visuals, gameplay, story, and music are all excellent. Lately there has been a lot less jrpgs that are being released (when compared to several years ago). It would be great to see more jrpgs being released for the 360, ps3 and wii. I believe there is one or two Tales, games coming out in the near future. However, I would like to see a follow up to Vesperia.

What games would you recommend to someone that has just purchased an Xbox 360?Well if that person is into rpgs then I would say check out:
Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls IV, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Blue Dragon, Fable 2 & 3, Sacred 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean The Last Hope.

If you are into action games and shooters then check out:
Mirrors Edge, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry 4, Dantes Inferno, Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2, Crackdown, Halo Reach, Halo 3, Medal of Honor, Gears of War 1 & 2,
Bioshock 1 & 2, Resident Evil 5,Dead Space 1 & 2 (coming soon), Ninja Gaiden 2, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Banjo & Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Splinter Cell Conviction

If you are into Fighting Games then check out:
Super Street Fighter IV, Virtua Fighter 5, Blazblue Calamity Trigger, Dead or Alive 4, Tekken 6, Fight Night Round 3 (I guess you could put FNR3 into the Sports category as well).

If you are into sports and racing games check out:
Burnout Paradise, Split Second, Blur, Project Gotham Racing 4, Madden 10, Tiger Woods 11, Virtua Tennis 3, Sonic and Sega All Star Racing, NBA Live 10, Skate 2 & 3, FIFA 2010.

I am sure that there will be other games that will come to my mind.

Why do you think people like about your channel so much? (c’mon, be honest now!)To be honest I think why people watch my videos is because they identify with the games and gaming culture that I am into. I like to see what gamers on youtube are playing and I think gamers out there just want to know what games are worth their time and money.

Looking at your latest Xbox 360 collections video you’ve amassed a good amount of games. Have you ever looked at that mountain of gaming goodness and thought to yourself “Damn, I’ve spent way too much on games?”

You know when I was growing up there were a lot of times when there was a drought of great games coming out. As a kid I would only get a game every 2-3 months. I would play that game untill it was finished. Now that I have a job and check out what is on sale it seems that everything in now in reverse. I can get plenty of games; however I just wish that I had more time to play them.

I think if I ever had a conversation with myself 15 years ago my younger self would probably say something like “Hey, moron stop wasting all that money on those games and start putting some time into the games that you already have.”

What’s the pride and joy of your collection? That would have to be my Turbo Grafx 16 hat. When I got my Turbo Grafx 16 growing up I purchased the system directly from NEC. After that NEC would send me promotional items. Among those items was a Turbo Grafx 16 hat. I had lost that hat for years. Not too long ago I found that hat and man that made my day. I actually posted a video on my channel regarding this rare hat-

2010 has been a good year for gaming with the likes of Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, Bad Company 2 and so many more. Do you think 2011 is going to better it or will 2010 stand as one of the best yearst? If not what would you class as the best year for gaming?

2010 has been amazing. But 2011 is going to be even better. 2010 would have been a strong contender for the best year ever if so many games were not delayed. Just check out what 2011 has lined up:

Dragon Age 2
Crysis 2
Bad Company 2 Vietnam Expansion
Bulletstorm
Infamous 2
Resistnce 3
Killzone 3

Dead Space 2
Hunted Demon’s Forge
Brink
Max Payne 3

And those are just some of the games that we know about. Time will tell what other great games will come out in 2011.

Since it’s such a big topic I really have to ask. Kinect (fomerly Project Natal) has split many gamers down the middle.
Whats your take on this new tech?

I think that $150 is a lot to ask for when the upcoming list of games in anything but impressive. However, many developers are excited at the potential that Kinect offers. Right now the only game that I am interested in is Child of Eden. When I went to the Xbox 360 E3 Media briefing for 2009 I had the opportunity to see the unveiling of Kinect (project Natal at the time). Before Natal was introduced I thought that the next xbox system would be unvieled (before Microsoft announced the Natal Don Mattrick kept talking about new innovative technology). I can understand why so many gamers are scepetical about the Kinect. Whenever a system has introduced a system add-on it usually fails. Imagine what would have happened to Nintendo if they sold the Wii from day one with a standard controller and years later introduced the Wii Remote. I think the Kinect has some potential but it really is an uphill battle for Microsoft. If first party and third party support can consistently released AAA titles then it will do just fine.

Collector Editions of games are becoming pretty common now. do you feel they’re no longer as unique as they once were or do you think it’s a good thing to see more games get them?

I think that many of the Collector Editions are not that special at all. However, your  history with that game or series can play a role to how well that Limited Edition is received. Just recently I picked up the Limited Edition Ys 7 for the psp. I was very impressed with this limited edition. The Ys series is a series that I grew up with and it is amazing to me that companies like Xseed are willing to put thier resources on the line do something special like release a Limited Edition for games like Lunar and Ys 7. Some games like Mass Effect 1 & 2 are real collector editions that sell out fast and go up in value quickly. There are a lot of collector editions that don’t do this. I know when the Halo 3 Legendary edition came out it was over $120. But know you can get it at places for around half that price. It will be interesting to see how the Halo Reach Legendary Edition does in regards to its value. I recently read an article for how the Legendary Edition for Halo Reach would not be produced as much as the Halo 3 Legendary Edition.

Developing games is now so expensive that risks are often not taken and instead they go with the safe options (etc, another COD or COD style of game) so that they can make money. Do you think they need to start taking risks?

This is a really tough one for many developers and publishers. The gamers want someting new. But at the same time many of these gamers are not willing to part with thier $60 if it does not appeal to thier FPS comfort zone. I remember when Mirror’s Edge came out. Here was a game that was very innovative at the time it was released. It had amazing visuals and music, an interesting story, and fun gameplay. However, Mirror’s Edge did not do that well on the retail shelves. Sometimes taking risks does not have to be as expensive as some people think. Granted there are games that have budgets that are over $50 million dollars. When Gears of War was released it was a huge hit and it was able to provide innovative gameplay. The budget for Gears of War was “somewhere between 9 and 10 million dollars” to make (Wired.com, 2007). The risk that was taken for Gears of War is something that Epic and Microsoft is very grateful for.

As things such as motion control, voice commands and more are becoming more commonplace in games, what do you see as the future of gaming?

A lot of game publishers would love it if all thier games were only availible for download. The used game industry has taken huge profits from the game developers and publishers. I think as time goes on these publishers will find a way to discourage the printing and physical manufacturing of games and encouraging the exclusive digital distrubution for thier video game library.

Multiplayer is becoming the focus  on many games. What’s your take on this?

I recently noticed that the upcoming game Vanquish (3rd person shooter) does not have multiplayer. I was kind of happy to hear about this. Sometimes the developers are so stretched to make the multiplayer for a game (even if the multiplayer is not any fun or does not fit the particular game). Not all games need or should have multiplayer.

Right. Time for a change of pace. Tell us a joke, you must know a few?

- Two peanuts walk down the street at night one of them was        a-salted.
- The State flower for West Virginia is the DIRECTV satallite dish.

What game or part of a game has frustrated you the most?

Two words:
Demon’s Souls

Now it’s time for a chance to shamelessly advertise yourself. Why should we go visit your channel and why should we hit Subscribe?

At my channel I talk about the gaming industry, my gaming collection, and what games that I am most looking forward to. Like I said earlier I make videos for youtube because it’s fun. If you are a gamer like me then I think you will really enjoy the videos that I offer at my channel.
