Mass Effect 3 Leviathan and Firefight Weapon Pack Singleplayer DLC Revealed

While the multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3 has been getting plenty of DLC treatment, fans of the epic sci-fi series have been clamoring for some additional singleplayer content to play through, despite having already finished the fight with the Reapers.  Well, today it was revealed that Mass Effect 3 will be getting a chunk of singleplayer DLC titled Leviathan some time in the future.

The news came today at EA’s Summer Showcase, where the above trailer was shown for the DLC. Since then Bioware have revealed more details via their blog:

“Taking place during the events of Mass Effect 3, players will be thrust into the darkest corners of space where they will hunt a mysterious being rumored to be powerful enough to destroy a Reaper. As they race against time, they will begin to unravel the secret of the Leviathan. Explore uncharted systems and new areas on the Citadel, interact with brand new characters, unlock the AT-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle and discover more about the mysterious history of the Reapers”

The Leviathan DLC is going to cost 800MSP or $10 and will be released “Later this summer”.

You might also remember that a little over a month back I posted a news story about the Leviathan DLC being leaked. Files for the DLC were found within the Extended Cut that included storyline information, giving us more of an idea of what this DLC will actually be about. You can find that news piece by clicking the link below, but please keep in mind that the it contains huge spoilers regarding the storyline for Leviathan, so if you want to experience it properly when it releases I advise that you don’t read it.

The big question at this point is do we really want more background information for the Reapers? While it’s sometimes nice to have a fleshed out and complex foe, the appeal of the Reapers is that they’re arace of machines shrouded in darkness that fly out of the vast reaches of space and simply annihilate everything. By revealing more of their history it might make them feel less mysterious and deadly. After all, humans fear what we do not understand. While I certainly can’t deny that discovering their secrets does intrigue me, hopefully the DLC hints at their history rather than fully revealing it, leaving an air mystery to this powerful race of sentient machines.

Along with the new Leviathan DLC, Bioware have announced that they’ll be releasing a singleplayer weapon pack on August 7th for 160MSP or $2. The pack will feature, “two powerful new weapons and five bonus weapons to use in the fight to Take Back Earth!.” Exactly what these weapons are was not revealed.

About Baden Ronie

I always hate writing about myself, it's such a pain in the ass to know where I should start. I'm twenty years young and love to play, as you may have already guessed. When WolfsGamingBlog.com started up it was simply because I found writing to be a good form of stress relief for when my Cystic Fibrosis was getting me down or simply because I had been having a bad week. When I started writing I never dreamed that people would actually read it, or that it would ever get this big. It's mind boggling. My writing isn't the best, but through trial, error and the comments of readers I strive to improve it so I can provide fair reviews. My ultimate goal is to prove that not everyone in the gaming media are corrupt idiots intent on delivering false reviews. Other than that I'm a fully qualified lifeguard and used to teach first-aid and life-saving skills to kids. What more is there to say? Hmmm, well I love music, reading and films. I'm a drummer, enjoy going swimming and tend to get distracted by shiny objects.
