Rockstar Hint At New Red Dead Game Again, But Still No Confirmation On Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar recently held a Q&A session for their fans which has gotten the Internet all hot and bothered with sites making bold headlines proclaiming that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been officially announced. Let’s just hold onto our horses here, because Rockstar haven’t announced Red Dead Redemption 2.

So, what did they say? When a fan asked them, “all I want to know is if there will be a new Red Dead Redemption coming anytime soon?” Rockstar replied:

We love Red Dead too – and are thrilled that so many of you loved John Marston’s tale and are excited for more epic Western action.

As we mentioned in our last set of Asked & Answereds to similar questions about the future of other game franchises like Bully and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won’t get to them eventually.

Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series.

The first confusion comes from the fact that Red Dead Redemption is actually the second game in Rockstar’s Red Dead series of games, with the first being Red Dead Revolver. You’ll note that Rockstar didn’t talk about Red Dead Redemption 2, they talked about a new game in the Red Dead series. The second confusion is that they didn’t announce another game was in developement, but merely repeated their words from the last Q&A that they take their time with sequels but that they do get to them eventually. It doesn’t mean they will make another one, but that they’ll get to looking at making one eventually. And then they tell us to stay tuned, which is at least a good sign.

So, Red Dead Redemption 2 most certainly hasn’t been confirmed. However, with the huge success of the game it’d be a major surprise if Rockstar didn’t continue their Red Dead series of games, and their choice of words seems to indicate that they will be.  Also, considering how Redemption left off they could easily make a direct sequel to it.

We’ll just have to wait and see, but a next-gen Red Dead game sounds mighty tempting.
