Mortal Kombat is announced

After that frankly awesome live action trailer for something Mortal Kombat based that left everybody wondering what was going on, they’ve now announced a brand new Mortal Kombat game! which leaves us with the live action trailer… film anyone?

While you’ll have to wait until 2011 to get your grubby hands on it you’ll be please to know that Ed Boon (Creator of the series) is running the show and it will be developed by the newly renamed Netherworld Studios.

Mortal Kombat (no subtitle yet) is returning to its classic 2d gameplay and the Fatalities are back and now in even more gruesome detail than ever.
New features promised are a Tag Team mode and the “deepest story mode of any fighting game” which is not that hard to be honest.

We are bringing the Mortal Kombat franchise back to gamers with the talented NetherRealm Studios team creating the game fans long to play,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Re-establishing the brand with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat innovates on past games while staying true to the brand’s legendary characters and fighting style.”

“We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”

And extensive online features are promised such as 4 player Tag Team battles, a 2 player co-op Arcade mode and more.
Below you’ll find the announcement trailer for the game and the live action trailer respectively.
