Having just posted the news that SEGA and Creative Assembly today announced Alien: Isolation, a first-person horror-survival game, I sat down to watch the first proper gameplay footage of the game. Having said that my interested was certainly piqued in the initial post you can now count me as cautiously optimistic.

The gameplay shown demonstrates that the developers do indeed understand what made Ridleys Scott’s 1979 film so exhilarating and terrifying. You’re trapped alone on a station being hunted by a single Xenomorph whom you cannot take head on.  Should you encounter the beast your only option is to hide, and then make a break for it when you think it won’t be able to see or hear you.

In essence then, Isolation is doing everything right thus far. Aliens: Colonial Marines turned the chilling Xenomorphs into a horde of enemies to be gunned down, their AI making them a laughable foe at best, but in Isolation there’s just one alien chasing you, and it’s presented in a chilling light. You can’t fight this thing. You can’t take it on. You can only run.

It’s pretty intense stuff, but like the Inside Xbox team I do question whether the developers will be able to pace the game correctly.Only time will tell.
