Precisely one month ahead of its planned release, Immortals of Aveum has been delayed until August 22nd.
Being published under the EA Originals banner, Immortals of Aveum is a first-person magic-based shooter that looks incredibly promising. We’ve been able to see it in action a few times now, and it almost reminds me of DOOM if you replaced all the guns with magic spells, albeit not as fast and frantic.
Developer Ascendant Studios made the announcement on their website, stating “As you know, this is our first game as a self-funded independent studio. We set out five years ago to ambitiously make an original Magic FPS in a new fantasy world. Along the way, we worked through a pandemic, built a new team, developed on Unreal Engine 5.1 and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Now, the finish line is in sight.”
“In order to realize our full vision, we are going to take a few extra weeks, making our new launch date Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right.”
While it always sucks to see a game being delayed, I’d much rather developers and publishers gave their projects time rather than shove them out of the door in an unfinished state. For years now, big games have been launching with hefty issues, using paying customers as QA testers while the developers issue apologies and promise to do better in the future.
Because its their first game, nobody should expect perfectly from Ascendant, but they also only get one chance at a first impression, so I think this is the right choice.
