Last week I posted a story about Red Dead Redemption being rated on the Korean Ratings Board, an organization notorious for leaking games ahead of their official announcement. The rating indicated a console version of the game, separate from past ratings for the initial launch version, Game of the Year Edition and Undead Nightmare expansion. The news reignited excitement over a possible remake or remaster of Red Dead Redemption, something which was once believed to have been cancelled.

Now, a little more information has surfaced. Colin Moriarty, former writer for IGN and co-founder of Kinda Funny Games, revealed on the latest episode of his Sacred Symbols: A Playstation Podcast that someone behind the scenes has shown him something which confirms the existence of a remake or remaster.

“I have seen confirmation that this is real…I had someone reach out to me behind the scenes that showed me something that definitively shows this game is coming. Maybe even imminently with an announcement, maybe in August.” said Colin.

At around 3:53.13 of the latest episode, Colin and his co-hosts discuss the Korean rating news before confirming that someone has shown him some sort of proof.

While Colin has not always been 100% accurate, he is generally quite reliable and typically only talks about unannounced games when he’s confident or can corroborate the information. The Korean rating is likely why he felt safe to mention having seen something that confirms the game’s existence.

Between the Korean Ratings Board and Colin’s information, it seems like we really are going to be seeing Red Dead Redemption come to modern consoles. The only question now is what form it will take: a remaster, or a remake using Red Dead Redemption 2’s engine? Previous speculation has been that Rockstar might remake the game fully because the game’s original code is messy, meaning a remaster for modern hardware could be so much work that a remake makes more sense.

The seemingly inevitable release of Red Dead Redemption also brings with it hope that we might finally get a proper Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 update for Red Dead Redemption 2, potentially making an already stunning game even better.
