A new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has dropped, focusing heavily on the bromance between Mortal Kombat veterans Sub-Zero and Scorpion. In the midst of all the brutality and blood, a couple more characters were confirmed as playable, bringing us a little bit closer to knowing the full roster ahead of the September 19th release date.

In terms of playable characters, Smoke is making his return to the franchise, teaming up with Scorpion and Sub-Zero to form Team Palette-Swapped Ninjas! Okay, they didn’t have a name. I made that up. Smoke first popped up in Mortal Kombat 2 where he was basically a grey version of Scorpion with faster moves. He last appeared in the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot, so its cool to the Lin Kuei member return, sporting a rather fetching boy-band haircut to boot.

We then got to see Rain in action, a character that was originally created by Ed Boon as a jokey reference to Prince. Like Smoke, Rain last popped up in the 2011 game as downloadable content as well, so that means both him and Smoke haven’t been able to perform a Fatality in over a decade. That’s far too long.

We also got to see three Kameo fighters make their Mortal Kombat 1 debut. Frost is back having only just appeared in Mortal Kombat 11, while Cyrax and Sektor give us a little cyborg action. It’s possible all three could be playable characters as well, but I’m going to assume they’ll only be available as Kameo fighters.
