If you have an active Xbox Live Gold membership you’ll be able to claim two free games from August 1st as part of your membership: Inertial Drift and Blue Fire.
Inertial Drift’s description reads: “Drive through a 90s retro future in this arcade racing game that leverages a unique handling model and twin-stick drift mechanics. Choose from 16 unique cars across 20 wild tracks to tear through the neon streets.”
Inertial Drift came out in 2020 and got a pretty good reaction. It holds a score of 81 on Opencritic and looks like it could be a lot of fun.
As for Blue Fire, it’s a 3D platformer with a score of 71 on Opencritic and came out in 2021.
These games represent the final titles for Games with Gold before the service is permanently retired at the end of August. Microsoft will be replacing it with the recently announced Game Pass Core which will cost the same and provide access to a small library of games.
The two games being offered in August are pretty decent, especially compared to what Games with Gold has usually served up, but it’s hardly an explosive finale for the long-running subscription. I was kind of hoping Microsoft would line up something special so it could go out with a bang.
