In a shocking announcement, Nintendo finally realised that they hadn’t been putting the right name on their long-running Legend of Zelda franchise. Instead of naming the games The Legend of Link after the iconic mute hero we normally play as, they’ve been sticking Zelda’s name on the box instead! Doh!

Obviously, I’m taking the piss, but it is kind of funny that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be the first game to actually star Zelda herself as the main character.

This new 2D title will launch on September 26 and it features a graphical style that is nearly identical to the Link’s Awakening remake which launched in 2019. Zelda will be teaming up with a fairy named Tri and a new Trirod tool capable of copying objects and creating “echoes” of them to help solve puzzles. As an example, the trailer shows Zelda creating copies of a table and using them to get up a cliffside. It seems previous echoes of items you’ve come across will also be retained.

As for Link, he’s seemingly been dragged into a nasty looking portal to a shadow realm. Sadly, a team up with Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh! seems unlikely which is a shame because Yugi and his pals would be the best source of help in any situation involving shadow realms.

Honestly though, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom looks absurdly cute, cheerful and fun to play.
