Clearly the folk over at 11 Bit Studios did not sign a decree forcing children to become laborers because Frostpunk 2 has been delayed until later this year.

The announcement was made on Steam where Game Directors Jakub Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk revealed that Frostpunk 2 will now launch on September 22 instead of in July.

Apparently, this is due to feedback the team got during Frostpunk 2’s closed beta which took a few months ago.

“Just over two months ago, you had the chance to play Frostpunk 2 Beta, and we greatly appreciate the feedback you shared with us,” the duo said on Steam. “So much so that it took us some time to take everything in, as there was both a lot of praise for our work (who doesn’t like praise, right?), but also many keen observations on areas we could improve or add to the final game.”

According to the pair, the average rating for the beta was 8 out of 10 which the team was “super grateful.” But the beta also allowed them to spot some things that didn’t work.

“As we analyzed your feedback and prioritized things we want to add to the game, we realized that to properly do them justice – and to guarantee the best possible experience at launch – we need more time to finish the development of Frostpunk 2” said Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk.

While the delay does suck (speaking as someone who freaking loved the first game) it does mean that 11 Bit Studios are going to deliver an even bigger experience. They’re adding in a new reshaping feature for districts, a new resource and a host of other changes to the gameplay such as “More detailed and flexible workforce management.”

On top of that, the beta revealed that people felt like “you lost attachment to individuals” due to the game’s much bigger scale. To address that, 11 Bit Studios are adding a new feature called “Zoom Stories” which they say are “basically zoom-ins available in specific city parts that allow you to watch the day-to-day life of your citizens.”

Frostpunk 2 will be out for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on September 22, and will launch on Game Pass on day 1.
