Xbox’s Developer Direct has been and gone, and with it comes the greatest treasure of all: knowing when you can rip and tear next.
Yup, Doom: The Dark Ages made its incredibly violent presence known and proceeded to confirmed what was leaked a few days earlier: it’s coming out on May 15, 2025 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
A special press Q&A event was held prior to the game being released, revealing a few more fun details about the game. For example, Eurogamer reports that the iconic glory kills are now un-synced, meaning you’ll no longer be locked into a short cutscene which should allow for smoother, faster kills.
“For 10 years now, we’ve been trying to solve the problem of what happens when there are multiple demons staggered at the same time,” game director Hugo Martin said.
“By the time you’ve played one synced glory kill, you turn to the other one and he’s already out of his stagger state. The answer [was] it never worked to just leave them in the stagger state longer, that just feels weird.”
The control scheme has also been simplified because “you shouldn’t be fighting the controls, you should be fighting the bad guys.”
And while the game isn’t going open world, it sounds like the levels will be the biggest the series has ever seen.
All in all, then, Doom: The Dark Ages is looking more badass than ever. Bring on May 15.
