Surprise! There’s a new Witcher game coming out next month. No, it’s not the rumoured DLC for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Rather, it’s a new title called Reigns: The Witcher.
It’s scheduled to release on February 27th, for PC and mobile. So far, no console version has been mentioned, and given the Reigns series’ history, it probably won’t turn up on Xbox and PlayStation. There’s a chance for a Switch release, though.
If you aren’t aware of Reigns, basically the idea is that you make story choices by swiping left or right, nudging a kingdom or tale toward glory, ruin, or absurd disaster. It’s probably the last one, let’s be honest.
This version of Reigns has Witcher bard Dandelion recounting one of Geralt’s many adventures. At one point in the trailer, a cow pops up. Which you can kill. Seems like this won’t be the most serious take on The Witcher, then.
Presumably, this little Devolver Digital published game was not the The Witcher 3 DLC that has been rumoured. That expansion is allegedly being worked on by Fool’s Theory, whereas this new adventure is being made by Nerial.
Maybe this will tide us over until that expansion turns up. Or until The Witcher 4.
