Hey everyone,
I haven’t stopped to write a personal message in a while, but a good Twitch samaritan named SaucySnark brought this to my attention and I wanted to do what I can do make sure everyone is aware of it.
Some muppet on Twitch going by the name of wolfsgaminghubb is using my website logo, and appears to be running some sort of scam based on pretending to be me. He popped into SaucySnark’sawesome Helldivers 2 stream and said: “I run a large gaming criticism platform with a Twitch-heavy audience. We’re selecting one helldivers streamer for a 14-day featured growth case study focused on personality. You fit the profile.”
Obviously, that’s not me. I did not have a Twitch account prior to the one I just made to report this ludicrous cockwomble, nor do I run case growth studies outside of studying how much my stomach grows when I raid the local all you can eat buffet.
“I will feature you across my blog for 14 days with structured articles, embedded streams, homepage placement, and direct calls-to-action to our Twitch audience. We track follower and viewer growth before and after,” said the imposter.
SaucySnark pointed me toward the video of his stream where you can see the douchebag appear in the chat at around 17:50. You can see it here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2706488470
SaucySnark told me that the fake wanted to chat on Discord using the username ronie100, which is my surname. Minus the 100, obviously. Although now I kind of wish that was my actual name. Hmm. The imposter claimed they would “send a link to my blogs”, so I assume the intent was to direct SaucySnark to here in order to prove their identity. Of course, SaucySnark is the most epic person on the planet and did not fall for such a daft plan.
It’s a classic scam, really. Pick a small website that has enough traffic and presence to point people toward but that isn’t super well known so that nobody notices the impersonation going on. I got lucky that the amazing SaucySnark noticed something was up and took the time to message me. Please, please, if you have a Twitch account, go check out SaucySnark on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/saucysnark
As for the imposter, I created a Twitch account in order to report them properly, and will hopefully heard from Twitch soon and can begin working on getting them banned. However, I’m not super-hopeful yet as my past experiences with getting impersonators stopped has not been great. I’ve had this entire website cloned multiple times in the past.
Thanks for taking the time to read this everyone. Please keep your eyes open for all scams. It’s far too easy to walk into them sometimes, even for the most vigilant of us.
If you wish to help, report them on Twitch: Go to twitch.tv/wolfsgaminghubb, three dots > Report > User > Search > Impersonation. Mention the VOD: twitch.tv/videos/2706488470 (17:50-31:30).
For future reference: I have no official Twitch channel, nor any public Discord username for this website. The only social media I maintain is on Twitter and BlueSky, both of which I barely ever use. If you see me anywhere else, it probably isn’t me. But if you are ever in doubt, feel free to contact me here via the website.
