It seems like Sony is in a bit of a mood at the moment, as a new report indicates they’ve shuttered Dark Outlaw Games, their second studio shutdown this year.
The team was founded by Treyarch veteran Jason Blundell and was officially recognized last year as a Sony studio following months of rumours and leaks. The team was touted as an incubation studio that was eventually going to birth a brand new IP for PlayStation, but we never did get any concrete details on what the project would be. Given Blundell’s history, though, many people assumed some sort of shooter would be spawned from Dark Outlaw Games.
However, today’s new suggests that the studio has been shuttered by Sony without ever getting to release a single title.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg initially broke the news on his Bluesky account, saying: “More layoffs today: PlayStation is closing Dark Outlaw Games, a studio formed last year by former Call of Duty lead Jason Blundell.”
According to Schreier, this will effect around 50 employees in total.
While there has been no official announcement from Sony or Dark Outlaw Studio, the official X account for Dark Outlaw Games has gone dark, supporting the rumours.
It’s a crappy day all around, as Schreier also broke the news today that Epic is laying off another 1,000 people.
