It has been quite some time since we’ve heard from Xbox’s backwards compatibility, but now it has reappeared with some exciting news: it’s coming to PC.

Over on the Xbox Wire, Jason Ronald – the VP of Next Generation at Xbox – made the announcement, sharing that four old-school original Xbox games are now playable on PC and PC handhelds. More are planned for the future.

“Rolling out today, XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC launches in early release, starting with four classic original XBOX games, now playable on PC and handhelds for the first time ever,” said Ronald. “This marks the beginning of a broader effort to preserve XBOX games from the past and bring them to PC over time. And we are not just enabling you to play them on PC.”

Those four games are BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker, Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy.

These are available right now to purchase on PC, and on Game Pass. You’ll find them in the Xbox PC app.

Even better, if you already own the license for them on console, that license will carry over to the PC.

There’s also been some new features add; 4x resolution upscaling, Vsync support, fullscreen and windowed display options, anisotropic filtering, enhanced aliasing and more.

Achievements are not available yet, but will be added in “the coming months.”

“XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC is another step toward preserving the games from the past and making it easier for you to enjoy and play more of the games you already own across the devices you use every day,” said Ronald.

This is a nice little PR win for Xbox, which the brand sorely needs right now following the mass-layoffs. The timing is also excellent considering the growing argument about Sony ditching physical game discs and whether you even own the digital games you buy.
