007 First Light is right up there in the discussion for the best game of the year, and it sold a load of copies. The future seemed bright, but then Amazon’s Jeff Gattis, head honcho at Amazon Games, made a few comments that seemed to imply Amazon might be taking over the series and that IO Interactive might not be handling the sequel. Now, new comments clear things up a little
“The game’s awesome. That’s great. I think it’s realistic to think that there would be a sequel. Technically, Amazon does own the rights to the game, but we’re going to do what’s right by the game, we’re not trying to bring everything into Amazon,” Gatiss told gameindustry.biz in a new interview.
“Given the success of this one, I think you probably want IOI developing it.”
It’s not an official confirmation, but about as good as you’re going to get at this stage.
Gatiss is even asked if oerhaos buying IO Interactive could be on the cards: “anything’s possible,” he says, but adds that”no conversations about that right now.”
IO Interactive will certainly be hoping for a sequel since the game did so well. They recently had to cancel their Project Fantasy when their partner (allegedly Xbox) pulled out of the deal. And while the Hitman series has helped secure the studio, some more James Bond cash wouldn’t go amiss.
