Today’s Xbox news has been massive, seeing multiple studios shifting position within the company’s structure. But arguably the biggest news is that Activision is now developing the next Halo game, with Halo Studios being put into the role of support studio.

But what will that new Halo game be? Well, according to the Holywood Reporter, a source has informed them that it will “a full-feature, mainline installment into the franchise.” Not a spin-off. And mainline, meaning it will most likely continue the story of Master Chief and is continuing mission to be bloody awesome.

Given development times these days, that means we shouldn’t expect to see it before 2030, unless Activision has secretly been working on it already or are picking up existing work done by Halo Studios.

It also raises the question of what’s happening with the Halo 2 and 3 remakes. At one point, insiders were saying both were already greenlit and in production prior to Halo: Campaign Evolved launching, but that changed later on, with newer reports stating Halo Studios wasn’t working on anything.

With Activision taking over Halo for now and Halo Studios being relegated to a support team, are the remakes going to move forward? Halo: Campaign Evolved sales looked a little soft for a game bearing the Halo name, after all.
