Finally, after a lengthy silence, we have some good news from developer Bit Reactor: the studio is alive and bringing back “most” of its furloughed staff.

Just weeks before launching the excellent Star Wars: Zero Company, developer Bit Reactor was reported to be about to run out of money and made the decision to furlough up to 80% of its staff, with the hope of bringing them all back if the game did well enough. A spokesperson confirmed that the furloughs were true, although they wouldn’t provide details on the amount of people affected.

Now, though, Bit Reactor has confirmed its bringing back as many of the furloughed staff as possible, although the wording suggests not everyone will be able to return to work.

“This week, we started the process of returning more of our team back to work at Bit Reactor, an important step forward in our continued support for Zero Company,” said Bit Reactor CEO Greg Foertsch on X.

“Having to ask out team members to step away after we navigated unexpected business developments outside of our control and so close to launch was an incredibly difficult becision, but one that was necessary to help us eventually bring as many people back as possible.”

There has been no word on exactly how many of the staff have been brought back. Nor are Bit Reactor offering any insight into what the “unexpected business developments” outside of their control were.

But it’s still good to see staff returning to their jobs. Star Wars: Zero Company is believed to have sold at least a million copies and counting, which is a pretty decent amount for a turn-based tactical action game like this. Clearly, it brought in enough cash for Bit Reactor to get themselves back on track.
