According to two new reports, the folk at MachineGames are working on Wolfenstein 3, confirming what the studio itself seemed to be hinting at.

Today’s reports kicked off with Jez Corden at Windows Central who, in an article about Xbox’s upcoming year, stated: “…I’ve heard that Wolfenstein III is also on the cards to coincide with the upcoming Wolfenstein Amazon TV show.”

The TV show is only rumoured at this point, not confirmed, so we have no idea when it’s supposed to air.

MachineGames last title was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and it’s possible that the studio is also working on a sequel to that. But the team is big enough to handle multiple projects, as they hinted toward in their financial reports where they said, “multiple exciting new projects,” were being worked on.

Getting back to Wolfenstein, Kotaku also issued an article today in which they confirm Corden’s claims.

“…Kotaku can confirm it’s true from our own sources” said the site.

Wolfenstein has been inactive since 2019’s highly disappointing Wolfenstein: Youngblood which was developed with aid from Arkane Lyon. It was, frankly, bloody terrible and a vast step down in terms of quality from the prior two games, both of which were excellent.

MachineGames themselves have been pretty clear about their desire to return to the series, saying in a documentary that “we’re not done with Wolfenstein yet. We have a story to tell.”

They also said they always envisioned the series as a trilogy, so I guess it’s time to wreck some more Nazis. Bring it on.
