The shockwaves from Bluepoint’s sudden closure by Sony are still being felt, but now we are slowly starting to learn more and more about what happened behind closed doors. One of those tidbits is that a Bloodborne remake was pitched by Bluepoint, but surprisingly, it was not Sony that turned it down.

In his new article examining what happened to Bluepoint and why it was closed, Jaso Schreier reveals that Bluepoint floating the idea of Bloodborne several times, a match seemingly made in heaven as fans have been clamoring for the game to be remade, and Bluepoint would be the perfect studio for it.

“In early 2025, when Bluepoint again pitched the idea of Bloodborne remake,” writes Schreier. “the studio was told that the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen, according to people familiar with the process.”

We’ve heard some rumours of this before – in fact, former PlayStation exec Shuhei Yoshida speculated that FromSoftware was the hold-up last year on an episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast.

But it means FromSoftWare holds a surprising amount of power over Bloodborne. Sony owns the IP outright and is free to do whatever it wants the game, whether it’s remake it, remaster it or make a sequel. FromSoftware cannot do anything with the game without Sony’s permission. And yet it’s apparently FromSoftware that veteod the remake.

And had they greenlit the idea, Bluepoint would still be with us.
