Best of Xbox Game Pass – Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
Let’s take a meander down the ruined street of memories to a console generation where grey and brown were the predominant colours. The Xbox 360 had been out for a year and was doing well for itself, with several games managing to shift over a million copies. As for me, I was finally looking to move on from my ageing Playstation 2 and join the new generation of consoles with their shiny graphics. As a PS2 owner, the PS3 was naturally tempting – I was familiar with the games already, after all, but the price tag was pretty hefty. The Xbox 360 looked great, but nothing on it stood out to me. And then Epic Games and Microsoft revealed their new game, Gears of War, and suddenly the choice was obvious. It turned out to be a good choice because the Xbox 360 era was glorious.
Best of Xbox Game Pass – Titanfall 2
If you enjoy shooters and haven’t played Titanfall 2 yet, get ready for one of the finest FPS campaigns to have ever been created. while the first Titanfall focused purely on delivering multiplayer thrills, Respawn upped their game for the sequel and gave players a 5-6 hour campaign all about a dude and his Titan stranded behind enemy lines and kicking ass.
Best of Xbox Game Pass – Skate 3
Ideally, I’d be recommending Skate 2 here, easily the best of the skateboarding trilogy published by EA. But sadly Game Pass only offers up Skate 3, which while still good doesn’t have Skate 2’s excellently designed open world. Don’t let that put you off, though, because Skate 3 is still excellent, regardless of whether you know your kickflips from your heelflips. Let me tell you why.
Best Games On Xbox Game Pass – Halo Wars 2 Is Overlooked
The venerable Halo franchise holds a hallowed place in the history of gaming as one of the greatest FPS franchises ever, even if the more recent entries from 343 Industries are more… divisive. But in the midst of that all that first-person goodness it’s easy to forget the two Halo spin-offs that took the series in very different directions. The two top-down twin-stick shooters were terrible attempts to capitalise on the Halo name and should never been spoken of in polite conversation. Halo Wars, on the other hand, fared much better when it tried to help bring the RTS genre to the Xbox 360 in 2009 and earned itself a sequel, albeit a sequel that eight years to arrive. While Halo Wars 2 is actually the newest Halo game to have been released, it’s also incredibly easy to overlook. I’m here to tell you that Halo Wars 2 is a real-time strategy gem that acts as a great jumping off point for bigger, more awesome RTS titles.
