Over the course of this mildly inconvenient pandemic I have often sat and passed judgment on the decisions made by governments, safe and secure in the very certain knowledge that I’ll never actually have to make choices that can affect hundreds, thousands and millions of people. The pressure that must come from leading people and being put into situations with no truly correct answers must be immense. It begs the question: if I was put in that position, what choices would I make? Well, according to Frostpunk I’m the kind of person who will put kids into the mines and use human corpses as a source of nutrition. Vote for me, my friends, because you can’t have a Necromancer problem if there’s no dead bodies to bring back.

Frostpunk: The Last Autumn Review – Killer Content

Frostpunk wasn’t just a great strategy game that demanded all of your concentration, it was also an interesting journey down the rabbit hole of good intentions. As you attempted to supply enough coal to keep a massive generator running to supply heat to your population the pressure made it all too easy to begin taking desperate measures: recycling corpses, child labour, propaganda and controlled religion are all tools that can be used to keep your society running. It was a game that fascinated me, so much so that I gave it a glowing review and a place in my top games of 2018.

Welcome, my dear readers, to the top 10 games of 2018, spanning Xbox One, PS4 and PC. This is the year I’ll always remember as the time EA declared that nobody was interested in single player games anymore. It was a stupid thing to say at the time, but a slew of fantastic single player games has made EA look even more absurd. Indeed, all round it has been a superb year for games regardless of the platform you play on.

Top 6 Games Of 2018 So Far

2018 continues to roll onward to its grand finale like a runaway child on a sled down a steep hill, so now that we’re just past the half-way point and are all just starting to realise that Christmas is somehow not that far away again it seems like a good time to check out the best games of the year thus far.

Now, do keep in mind that I currently game on Xbox One and PC, which means a very notable game in which “BOY!” is yelled and uttered a lot won’t be making an appearence on this list. Sorry, Playstation fans, I’m annoyed I missed it too, but money is limited and consoles are expensive.

Oh, and it goes without saying that I need to have actually played it. I’m one person, I can’t play everything. I try, though. I really, really try.

Frostpunk Review – Tonight, Hell freezes Over

Set in a Steampunk version of the 1800s with everything having gone to an iced-over hell due to a sudden ice age which somehow snuck up on humanity people have decided to leave the cities in order to found new homes using large generators, massive machines that burn coal to provide some warmth amidst conditions reaching -70c. As the captain of this expedition it’s up to you to construct a city, maintain hope and keep everyone alive. No pressure.
