Before you run screaming for the hills, utterly certain that this is just another feeble attempt to milk the cash cow, just take a minute to read the information and watch the video: you may be pleasantly surprised.
It seems that Fantasy Flight Games have actually put some serious thought into Gears of War the Board Game. You and three others can set forth to shoot the crap out of some Locust hordes through seven randomly generated levels, meaning each and every game should be unique. In theory, at any rate.
I highly recommend checking out this preview:
Here’s the official blurb:
“Gears of War™: The Board Game, designed by Corey Konieczka, is based on the wildly popular third-person shooter by Epic Games. One to four players take on the roles of COG soldiers cooperating to destroy the Locust horde, and must work together to complete missions against an ingeniously challenging and varied game system. In Gears of War: The Board Game, you’ll relive classic moments from Gears of War™ and Gears of War 2™. Roadie Run into cover, spray your enemy with blind fire, or rip him in half with your Lancer’s chainsaw!”
And finally, here’s a suitably gruff video explaining the game:
The game is currently looking very nicely designed, and may be just the thing to tide you over until Gears of War 3 hits.
Amazon currently have it down as an August 31st release.
