Let’s not get into the whole debate of pirating because it’s a long-winded subject full of intricacies that most people are, quite surprisingly, ignorant of. Companies like to claim that ever pirated version of their game is a sale lost, while the counter argument is that the majority of pirates would never have bought the damn thing anyway and that they’d buy it if prices were more reasonable.
But if nothing else pirated games can be used as a way of telling how popular a game was, so here’s the top five most pirated games for our beloved console this year:
Number 5: Kinect Sports: Season 2
Released back in October of this year, Kinect Sports: Season 2 managed to get itself illegally downloaded 690,000 times.
Number 4: Forza Motorsport 4
Turn 10’s racing sim took to the internet at breakneck speed and picked up a grand total of 720,000 downloads.
Number 3: Battlefield 3
Like Forza 4 and Kinect Sports, Battlefield 3 is yet another October release. For some reason that month was popular. Anyway, DICE and EA’s awesome shooter managed to pick up a total of 760,000 downloads.
Number 2: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
In an interesting turn of events Infinity Ward’s latest sequel in the earth-shattering Call of Duty series only managed to claim 2nd place in this list, having been pirated a total of 830,000 times.
Number 1: Gears of War 3
Gears 3 picks up the rather questionable award of the most illegally downloaded Xbox 360 game of 2011, having racked up a whopping 890,000 downloads since its release in September.
But to put this in to perspective, the number one pirated game on PC, Crysis 2, comes in at a rather mind-boggling 3,920,000 downloads, putting its console brethren to shame.
