GAME & Gamestation Will Not Be Stocking Mass Effect 3. Pre-Orders Will Be Cancelled

Shocking news has come through confirming that the GAME Group, which also includes Gamestation, will not be stocking Bioware’s upcoming sci-fi finale Mass Effect 3. Rumours have been circulating about this for some time, but now both GAME themselves and EA have confirmed that GAME will not be stocking the title online or in store, and by extension, neither will Gamestation.

So, just what the hell happens to my pre-order, then? Simply out your pre-order will be cancelled. GAME had this to say on the subject:

“We currently have a supply issue with regards to Mass Effect 3, which means that GAME and gamestation will not be able to fulfil orders for Mass Effect 3 at this time. We want to give customers as much notice about this as possible and provide them with a range of options ahead of launch.

“We appreciate that this is disappointing for our customers, and we apologise sincerely for the inconvenience that this will cause. We value the loyalty of our customers very highly and as a gesture of goodwill we are providing the following:

  • Customers who have pre-ordered in store, will have the opportunity to add £5 worth of Reward points to their card if they visit us from today through to 16 March 2012.
  • Customers who have placed a deposit for the title will receive refund as well as the £5 worth of Reward points between 1 and 16 March 2012.
  • Customers who have pre-ordered online, will be provided with an online voucher to the value of £5 to be spent on any purchase on our sites.”

So what should you do now? Well, the official EA site had this to say:

“The Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector’s Edition will now be available at the following retailers:

For customers who have pre-ordered the N7 Collector’s Edition please re-order your copies through these retailers.

For further information regarding the Mass Effect 3 Standard Edition with the N7 Warfare Gear in-game weapons pack, please check this page later today.

If you have placed a deposit for a pre-order or are uncertain that your existing pre-order will be guaranteed, please contact your local retailer.

Your local retailer is doing everything possible to make this process as smooth as possible to ensure you get your copy on launch day.”

In short, if you had a pre-order for the N7 Collectors Edition then you’ll want to stop reading right now and go pre-order it quickly from one of the above sites as availablitiy of the Collectors Edition is low.

This sad news comes after Eurogamer received a leaked internal memo from members of the GAME Group which also confirmed that SSX will be the last EA title GAME will be stocking in the forseeable future, and that they would no longer be taking pre-orders on Fifa Street, Tiger Woods 13 and Sims 3: Showtime. Head over to Eurogamer to read the memo in full, including details on why GAME won’t be stocking future EA titles.

I remain hopeful that GAME will continue to survive, yet this is a major blow to the high-street retailer that it may not manage to fully recover from as EA publish a considerable number of titles. And, of course, it’s a major blow to all who pre-ordered the N7 Edition with them. Hopefully you can secure another pre-order.
