Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Release Date And Setting Revealed

At this point the existence of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 could justifiably be called the worst kept secret in history. Just a few weeks ago retailers accidentally revealed  the fact that the game would be unveiled at the beginning of May. The games official box art was also revealed along with some leaked screenshots for the game. Before that the game had been spotted on French and Spanish retail sites, as well as on the CV of an employee at a contract art studio. In other words, EPIC FAIL!

But now a more official confirmation has turned up courtesy of Activision who put up an official splash page for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on the Call of Duty website. Since then the splash page has vanished, presumably because the game wasn’t actually supposed to be revealed until tonight, but not before plenty of people could get a good look at the release date and small description. According to the page Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be releasing on November 13th, 2012, for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, and will be set in the “21st Century Cold War where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare”.

Activision are supposed to be making a Call of Duty reveal tonight at the NBA playoffs which, given the hastily removed splash page and other evidence, can only be Black Ops 2.

So, another Call of Duty title. On a personal level the first Black Ops stands as my second favorite Call of Duty, so I can’t help but feel a little excited, but it’s still another Call of Duty game. How do you feel about it?

  1. Never really been a COD fan but I was surprised at black ops I thought it was better than the modern warfare additions. The zombie gameplay rocked so kudos for that but all in all never really blew my load over a Call of duty game and never will.

    Nice post.

  2. Another year and another cod game, im semi looking forward to this game but oddly more for the single player than the multi player. I’m so bored of the multiplayer on cod now especially when compared to bf3 there’s really no contest and cod desperately needs a new engine.

    • I’m with you when it comes to looking forward to the singleplayer more. In terms of campaign the original Black Ops has what I could probably call my favorite Call of Duty campaign.

On the engine front, I’d say they can use, and presumably, will use this engine until the next-gen. It’s still a fine looking series that can pull of some beautiful set-pieces, so they don’t have a huge reason to change the engine now with the next-gen looming.

      • Yea the engine can still do it, for some reason the smoke grenades mesmerize me lol. Id assume they would be working on a new engine for the next gen now.

  3. Another year another cod, im semi looking forward to this instalment but oddly enough more for the single player campaign than the online play. The online play isn’t a patch on bf3 and on mw3 seemed like no real planning had gone into any of the maps just the same crap served up with a different name on the box. And cod desperately needs a new engine.
