Starhawk Players Will Get Free Map Packs!

Releasing today exclusively on PSN, Starhawk has been receiving some impressive review scores and looks set to take the multiplayer community by storm thanks to fast action and some great ideas. But now things are looking even better for the and its players as Dylan Job, the President of Lightbox Interactive, the game’s developers, took to the Official Playstation Blog today to announce that every map pack released for Starhawk  will be free! How cool is that!?

The reason for this generosity is to better support the games community, as Lightbox found that in Warhawk, Starhawk’s predecessor, map backs that had to be bought split the community. “We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players. And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured” stated Dylan Jobe. Therefore Lightbox have decided that free map packs are the way to go, allowing the community to remain whole throughout the games lifespan.

And as an added bonus, Dylan also announced that Lightbox have already begun working on the very first map pack for the game. You can see the concept art for one of the levels, titled Cypress, below:

However, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any DLC coming out for the game that doesn’t require some cold, hard cash. “Now certainly we’ll have some paid DLC content in the future as well as our free map packs, but we’re still playing around with what that will be. We’re going to be looking to see what the player feedback is on Starhawk in the coming weeks to help steer the DLC that we develop for you all” Dylan said.

Alongside the DLC news Lightbox also announced an MLG Tournament for Starhawk with a top prize of $20,000. You can check out the full blog post by Dylan Jobe by clicking HERE.

Hopefully other developers out there take notice of Lightbox Interactives way of supporting their online community.
