Kojima has revealed that the next game in the Metal Gear Solid franchise will be titled Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and will arrive on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, an announcement that surprised the gaming community which were expect a next-gen launch. No exact release date has been announced just yet.
Kojima himself took to the stage at GDC wearing bandages on his face to make the announcement.
A reveal trailer gave us a glimpse of what to expect. Eagle-eyed viewers can pick up plenty of hints and clues.
Along with the announcement itself a rather interesting 6-minute gameplay demo was released, although it doesn’t really show us much in the way of actual gameplay other than crawling around on the floor.
Kojima also clarified exactly what Ground Zeros is – a prologue that is part of Metal Gear V. He took to Twitter after GDC to say:
“Ground Zeroes” is a prologue of “MGSV”. 9 years after that event will be “The Phantom Pain”. MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game “TPP”. The game play demo I presented today is the opening of “TPP” which is tutorial that starts from crawling.”
