The UK branch of Amazon has declared The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim the game of the generation, as voted for by the public.
Between June 1st and August 4th Amazon asked customers to cast their votes in a tournament style poll which pitted two games against each other in each bracket, until eventually it came down to Bethesda’s epic fantasy adventure and Naughty Dog’s The Last Us vying for the title. No numbers have yet been released by Amazon, so it’s unclear as to how much Skyrim won it by.
Of course there are some factors to be taken into account: Skyrim is a multiplatform game and has been out far longer, therefore meaning it has been played by a lot more people, while The Last of Us is a PS3 exclusive and has only been out a few weeks, but is also fresher in people’s minds.
The sixteen finalists in the Amazon poll were: Batman: Arkham City, BioShock, BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Far Cry 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, The Last of Us, Mass Effect 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Super Mario Galaxy, Portal 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and The Walking Dead.
As most of you already know I’m a Xbox gamer and a PC gamer, so I’ve not yet had the chance to delve into the Last of Us, so I can’t honestly comment on it, but Skyrim really was an oustanding game. Having said that Oblivion had more of an impact on me than Skyrim did.
