And the award for headline with the most uses of the word “game” goes to…

According to IGN they have learned from “multiple sources” that Telltale Games next project will be none other than George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones.

It’s unclear as to whether this refers to the television program Game of Thrones or the first book in the Song of Fire and Ice series. If that’s confusing for you let me fill you in: the series of books which the TV program is based on is not called Game of Thrones, it’s called The Song of Fire and Ice, of which The Game of Thrones is first book. This means that Telltale’s game could either be based on the existing TV show, or will follow the books, presumably with each season covering one book.

Regardless of which it is it’s an interesting rumour, and Martin’s complex world would certainly seem to fit Telltale’s template, providing plenty of opportunities for compelling decisions and rich characterization.  It’s also worth noting that Martin’s books are famous for having each chapter written from the viewpoint of a different character, and that Telltale tried something very similiar in their recent Walking Dead 400 Days DLC.

IGN reached out to Telltale and received this response:

“We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time. Officially we have no comment.”

As with any rumour it’s best to take this with a hearty pinch of salt, but no doubt the idea along will have gamers everywhere salivating, and rightfully so.
