Considerable concern was generated by a video fairly recently which seemed to indicate that Kinect was capable of seeing your…uh, privates. Gamers were worried that during the above demonstration you could see the unfortunate fellow’s penis.
But Microsoft have now confirmed, via IGN, that their powerful Kinect cannot see you naked, stating: “There is no tech magic going on here and Kinect cannot see through clothing. Furthermore, the video was an illustration of the various camera views available for the creation of games and apps. This view is only accessible on a development kit and is not viewable on retail consoles.”
Furthermore they said that the alleged penis was just, “a fold in the denim.” That sounds about right to me, as frankly I didn’t notice a thing in the video. Although to be honest I was not really looking that hard because…well, duh.
No matter what Microsoft say, though, there will always be concerned people. And why not? It’s a camera in your living room! I think I’ll make a handy flip-down lid to cover the sensor when not in use.
So, to summarise Kinect can’t see you naked. Unless you want it to.
