Master of the Lancer Cliff Bleszinski has announced via Twitter that he’s coming out of “retirement” and will be announcing his new project next week, the first since leaving Epic back in October of 2012.
“I’m officially coming out of retirement to make video games again,” the developer announced on Twitter. “Stay tuned here for details in the next seven days!”
So, what’s this new game? Well, we have had a couple of hints since Bleszinski left Epic. Back in December of 2013 he took part in a Podcast, mentioning, “”It will be a PC experience that will hearken back to a certain type of game that we cut our teeth on.”
When asked about what genre the game will be, he stated that it will be a first-person shooter, before going on to say that, “”I don’t ever want to make a game that has a cutscene or a scripted sequence in it ever again”
“A lot of these kids playing Call of Duty- I don’t think they know what a proper arena shooter is,” he added.
All of this would seem to point toward an arena shooter, hardly the biggest departure considering he’s worked on the Unreal Tournament series. However, that’s not to say he can’t add a unique twist to the formula.
Of course, that’s not to say the project he’s going to announce will actually having anything to do with the hints he’s dropped as anything could have happened in that period of time.
