Following a slew of negative reviews and forum posts Codemasters are now offering refunds to anyone that feels like they have been duped by Colin McRae Rally on Steam.
Many people, including myself, were surprised and excited when what appeared to be a HD remastering of the original Colin McRae Rally 2.0 appeared on Steam. However, in reality it was a port of the mobile game of the same name from last year, which features tweaked graphics and audio, redesigned menus and significantly less content than the original game.
Many people felt like that the game’s description misled them into believing it was a HD remaster of the original game, and upon purchasing it were unhappy with the product. The trailer certainly seems to indicate this. In fairness to Codemasters the original description on Steam did state it was a port of last year’s mobile game, though it was rather vague and it’s easy to see why many customers feel duped.
“We understand that some people who bought Colin McRae Rally on Steam are upset and feel that it isn’t the game they thought it would be. We have now updated the product description for clarification. ” Stated an official post by Codemasters on the Steam page.
In order to satisfy disgruntled customers Codemasters are now officially offering refunds to anyone who claims before the 19th of August.
“As an act of good faith, we have worked with Valve to enable anyone that bought the game to claim a refund.” States the post. “To process a refund, please go to your account transactions page and you will see a “Refund” button for Colin McRae Rally. We hope this goes some way to restoring any lost faith and thank you as always, for your continued support.”
It’s good to see a company admit to a mistake and attempt to recitify as best they can.
While the game’s trailer still strongly suggests that Colin McRae Rally is a true HD remaster, the description now clearly informs buyers that it’s actually a port of the mobile title they’re looking at:
“Colin McRae Rally features the car and track list from last year’s top selling mobile title and features THIRTY amazing rally stages in three environments taken from the PlayStation classic Colin McRae 2.0.”
