Uber Entertainment’s spirtual successor to both the brilliant Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander is finally set to leave Early Access and get a true release on September 5th.
Planetary Annihilation has thus far been playable since June of 2013 when the Kickstarter Alpha was launched, followed a month later by an Early Access release on Steam. Indeed, the game was heavily criticised when it launched on Early Access for having a rather hefty price-tag, especially given the runaway success of the Kickstarter campaign which raised $2.2 million, having only asked for $900,000. The game courted some controversy again earlier this year when Uber announced it would sell the Early Access version of Planetary Annihilation in retail stores as well, marking the first time an Early Access game could be bought on disc.
Stupidity aside, the game looks superb, offering up grand strategy on a truly epic scale. Throwing meteors at my enemy? Yes please. And on another lovely note, the trailer contains a rather familiar voice to those who remember Total Annihilation.
