Ubisoft have announced that to say sorry to its fans for the state of Assassin’s Creed: Unity they are making the forthcoming DLC Dead Kings, originally part of the game’s season pass, free to everyone.

Furthermore those who own a Assasssin’s Creed: Unity season pass will be given a free game from  a select list of titles, including The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015.  Redemption details will be available soon, but Ubisoft have already stated that you’ll be able to pick which title you want.

“Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues,” Mallat of Ubisoft writes. “I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential”

Other than working hard on patching the game this seems to be about the best thing Ubisoft can really do to try to minimise the damage to their reputation. A third patch for the game, which fixes several hundred things, should be arriving today.

“In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised,” Mallat writes. “In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.”

At least one more patch is also planned aimed at improving the framerate of the game.

Meanwhile Ubisoft also announced that the season pass has been discontinued. Existing owners will still get all content as promised.

Interestingly the Master Chief Collection also released essentially broken a mere two week ago thanks to severe matchmaking problems, and has only just received a patch which makes it work to an acceptable degree, yet 343i have been largely let off the hook. The media can be strangely selective in who they focus on.
