Following a brief time of teasing the official announcement 2K Games have revealed a follow-up to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, simply titled XCOM 2.
The new game will arrive on PC later this November, and while there was no mention of a console version it will almost undoubtedly appear on Xbox and Playstation.
The game takes place 20-years after the events of Enemy Unknown. The alien forces have managed to take over and are posing as Advent, a company offering radical, life-changing gene therepy to people for free in order to exert influence over the population. XCOM will be taking on the role of underground resistance, this time sporting a mobile headquarters and having to make use of very limited resources.
“The feedback from the passionate XCOM community played an important role in the development of XCOM 2, driving us to push the visual, gameplay and replayability boundaries of what a strategy game can be,” stated the blurb.
Details are mostly being kept for the upcoming E3 event, but modding support, procedurally generated levels and increased soldier customisation were all mentioned.
Considering how fantastic Enemy Unknown was I’m genuinely thrilled to see a sequel announced. Here’s hoping they can bring something new to the series as well.
