Back in 2006 Microsoft and Epic Games managed to deliver one of the greatest trailers for a videogame ever. Called the Mad World trailer it helped sell the idea of Gears of War, one of my favorite games of all time and a landmark title that for many, myself included, felt like the first true introduction into “next-gen gaming”.
Now with the Gears of War Ultimate Edition coming out later this month, which delivers a damn impressive remaster of the original Gears of War for Xbox One, Microsoft have attempted to recreate the magic by remaking the Mad World trailer. I have to say that watching the opening with that song hit me right in the nostalgic feels. However, as good as the remade trailer is, I still hold that the original, even with its less impressive visuals, is better. The new version is good, but a lot of footage was changed. The original had Marcus Fenix in a rundown street, before the iconic moment where he crashed through a window into complete darkness, watching as eyes suddenly lit up. You can view it below, and feel free to let me know if you think I’m right or if the new version is just as good.
Either way, the new trailer does its job of tapping into the nostalgic love for Gears of War, and frankly I can’t wait to play the remaster.
