The first details of Gears of War have begun to emerge courtesy of US magazine Game Informer. Microsoft snagged the rights to their cover story, granting the mag first dibs at covering Gears of War 4.
The biggest news is that the game will take place 25-years after the events of Gears of War 3 and will follow Marcus Fenix’s son, JD Fenix. Who is willing to bet that the D stands for Dominic, in memory of Marcus’ fallen friend?
According the the magazine JD is an idealist voiced by Liam McIntyre, the man who played Spartacus for two seasons of Starz hit TV show of the same name. JD apparently ran away at a young age to join the COG forces, but goes AWOL after some sort of classified incident that you learn about during the game.
Also revealed is that most human cities are now walled states. Kait Diaz is someone who grew up outside of those walls and is thus largely unfamiliar with how the COG work, but she becomes fast friends with JD and JD’s best friend Delmont “Del” Walker.
Developer The Coalition stated that the goal is to return the series to its, “darker, horror-themed roots”, something which I approve of wholeheartedly.
