Having long been rumoured Bethesda lifted the lid on a remastered version of their absurdly popular Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, due for release on the 26th of October on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Titled the Special Edition consoles are going to get a big graphical upgrade as the team are adding a whole host of special effects. The best piece of news, though, is that console owners will get access to mods for the first time, so that should be pretty interesting. I’m curious to see if Bethesda will curate what’s available, otherwise the Xbox One and PS4 could find themselves struggling to keep up.
For PC owners the news is a little less exciting since they essentially have access to a remastered version of the game anyway, although an official Bethesda visual improvement might be tempting. There’s also the question of whether the modding community will have to start over, since presumably existing mods won’t be compatible with the new remaster.
Meanwhile, if you already own Skyrim and all the DLC or the Legendary edition on Steam you’ll be upgraded to the new Special Edition for free.
