Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge was one of the very best games of last year, a retro-inspired beat ’em up that somehow managed to balance feeling like a proper arcade machine experience and yet actually have plenty of modern sensibilities.
It wound up being one of my favourite games of 2022 and I was not alone in that thought. In its first week of sale, the game managed to sell 1 million copies, and then in October of 2022, it was reported that the game had generated $22 million in revenue.
So it’s no surprise that Shredder’s Revenge is getting DLC. The new content is titled Dimension Shellshock and is due out by the end of the year, although no firm release date was revealed. The headlining news is that we’re getting a new playable character in the form of Usagi Yojimbo. If you don’t know who that is, the general gist is that he’s a samurai rabbit with his own comic book series. He frequently appears in crossovers with the Turtles.
The developers also mention other playable characters aside from Usagi, but don’t say who or what we can expect.
The other feature is a brand-new mode. “Explore dimensions in an upcoming new game mode,” states the DLC page on Steam before going on to say that details will be revealed soon. Very mysterious. The trailer doesn’t give much away, although I would personally expect some sort of horde mode where you jump from level to level, much like they released for Streets of Rage 4.
Dimension Shellshock also promises some new character colours, and more musical tracks by the talented Tee Lopes who composed all the songs for the full game, and also worked on the equally awesome Streets of Rage 4.
