Well, here’s a pleasant surprise: the stunning God of War: Ragnarok is getting free DLC titled Valhalla and it’ll be available on December 12th!

Announced at this years The Game Awards show, this new chunk of content sees Kratos and his beheaded pal journeying to Valhalla to battle a host of enemies, including an angry Cyclops. For those of you wanting more of that deliciously brutal combat, this is going to be perfect. And did I mention free? That bit is important.

The twist is that Valhalla includes roguelite elements, making being defeated a core part of the experience.

“Embark with Kratos to Valhalla on a deeply personal and reflective journey towards a future he never thought possible,” the trailer description says.

“Master challenges of mind and body on an unraveling adventure that blends the beloved combat from God of War Ragnarök with brand new elements inspired by the roguelite genre.”

God of War: Ragnarok is, of course, the massively successful PlayStation 5 exclusive from Santa Monica Studio which was released in 2022. Speculation that the game would get some sort of add-on has been rife but many thought it might focus on the son of Kratos, Atreus. Perhaps that will be saved for the next full game, though.
