Developer Rocksteady announced today that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed yet again, but this time only on the the Epic Store. While the Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and Steam versions will still launch on February 2, 2024, the Epic Store version has been pushed back until March 5.

According to Rocksteady, any pre-orders will be automatically cancelled and refunded by Epic.

“The release for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League on the Epic Games Store is now March 5, 2024,” reads the Discord post. ” If you pre-ordered the game on this storefront, Epic will be cancelling your pre-order and refunding customers directly.”

They then reiterated that every other version of the game will launch on February 2, with early access given to pre-order customers on January 30.

If you were hoping for some sort of explanation for the delay, Rocksteady didn’t provide one. A new insider video is due to release on Wednesday 20, December, so it’s possible they will address the delay then.

Let’s do some speculating then, shall we?

If the Steam version of the game is still going to be ready for February 2, that indicates to me that this is a problem with the Epic Store specifically. I have no proof of this, but my gut says it may be related to getting the cosmetic storefront running correctly with Epic’s payment systems.

Whatever the reason may be, it’s another blow to a game that has already been beaten up. The game – which revolves around playing as members of the Suicide Squad as they hunt down Justice League members like Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman – has been delayed numerous times and has struggled to gain much traction with fans. As more and more gameplay has surfaced, it seems like the hype-levels have dropped as players took a dislike to the live-service elements, gameplay and more.

And to top it all off, the last weeks have seen a bunch of leaks that spoiled most of the story. The leaks were so bad, Rocksteady had to issue a statement.

“We’re looking forward to players experiencing the story we’ve crafted in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League once the game launches in the new year,” the studio wrote. “We hope everyone can play the game and feel each movement of the narrative for themselves.

“It is very disappointing to see details being shared ahead of the game’s release, so we can only urge you to try and avoid spoilers where you can. And please try not to impact the enjoyment of other players by posting spoilers.”

Like many people, I haven’t been convinced by the various looks at the game we’ve seen, and yet I’m still a little bit excited. Rocksteady’s Batman games are some of my favourites, especially Arkham Asylum, and I want to hope that Suicide Squad can be just as good. I mean, the premise is freaking awesome. Fingers crossed, I guess.
