Jason Schreier if Bloomberg is reporting that the Embracer Group is selling off Saber Interactive as part of its ongoing restructuring in a bid to save the slowly sinking company. Embracer has shut down multiple studios and sacked over 1000 people so far.

According to Schreier, Saber Interactive is going to be sold for $500m and includes an option for multiple subsidiaries. Saber currently has 25 studios under its command, including 4A, the developers of the Metro games, and Aspyr who were bought by Embracer and put under Saber.

Schreier does not specify in his report who might be buying Saber, only that they are “private investors.” But he did mention that Saber will continue working on the remake of Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic, so that’s nice.

Saber Interactive was bought in February 2020 by Embracer in a deal worth $525m. Under Embracer, Saber would go on a buying spree as well, scooping up numerous studios like 4BigThings, Mad Head Games, Nimble Giant Entertainment, Snapshot Games, Aspyr, 3D Realms and Zen Studios.

Saber Interactive has a fairly busy release schedule ahead of it. The next game out will be Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game on 5th March. Space Marine 2, Jurassic Park: Survival, Heading Out and John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando are all set to release in 2024.

There are also reports circulating that Embracer is in the final stages of selling Gearbox as well, the studio behind Borderlands.
