Rockstar was recently the victim of a group looking to get into their systems and ransom stolen data. The group responsible has since leaked the information, perhaps indicating that Rockstar didn’t bother paying the ransom. One of the things that we’ve learned is just how much cash GTA Online is bringing in.
According to a user named Lexiture on the GTA Forums, part of the leak is some data on just how much cash GTA V generates. GTA Online is bringing in roughly $498.8M per year. Of course, we knew the game generating cash like crazy, but it’s still interesting to see exactly how much.
By comparison, Read Dead Online is allegedly bringing in about $26.4M per year.
The poster also breaks down some player data too. For example, GTA Online brings in around $1,319,322 daily, which is a staggering thought.
In terms of players, GTA Online is apparently getting an average of 9,937,747 per week, whereas Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online component is sitting a shade under a million at 969,848.
Finally, platforms. According to Lexiture, the data shows that the PS5 is king at 3,474,021 average players weekly, with that bunch bringing in the most cash. Interestingly, PS4 is in 2nd place with 1,889,729 players.
Xbox is very interesting because the Series X brings in 1,129,023 players per week while the Xbox one is only slightly lower at 1,026,695. But the really fascinating little tidbit is that the Xbox Series X users are apparently bringing in $1,867,947, while the Xbox One crowd is significantly less, spending roughly $918,373 per week.
PC is dead last with roughly 894,621 per week, spending roughly $264,273.
Who knows what other juicy details will emerge from the leak, eh?
