June is upon us like, and with it comes another batch of “free” games for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. Well, the ones that have stuck around after the recent price hikes, at any rate.
Drop a vote in the poll at the bottom of the page to let me know what you think about this month’s games.
There’s a bit of a theme with this month’s titles which you can grab from June 2 onwards. That theme is one of having friends, as all three games are very much geared toward playing with other people. Thanks for pointing out my lack of friends, Sony – very much appreciated.
First up, we have Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition for PS4 and PS5, a game 2022 with an Opencritic aggregated score of 82. Grab yourself up to three other players and embark on a shrunken adventure that includes massive spiders. Bugger that. I’m out.
“Shrink down and survive in a perilous, creature-filled backyard. Mysteriously shrunken down to the size of an ant, your intrepid young adventurer must fight for survival as they experience the backyard from an entirely new perspective,” says the blurb on PlayStation Blog. “Explore a vast garden environment alone, or with the aid of up to three friends in online multiplayer, and gather the resources you need to build shelter and craft armour and weapons to protect yourself from the creatures that populate the backyard. As you progress, you’ll uncover the truth behind your tiny transformation and find out what it takes to return to your original size.”
Next up we have Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 for PS4 and PS5, which has a 71 score on Opencritic. The obvious inspiration for this cartoon brawler is Nintendo’s own Super Smash Bros. It isn’t quite as polished, but I have played a little of this and it’s a decently fun game for local play with a few mates and a couple of beers.
“Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 lets you duke it out with the biggest and best fighting character roster yet, including all new characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Squidward Tentacles, Jimmy Neutron, and more. Play solo or fight online and choose your favorite brawlers, master their unique move sets, and use all-new powerful Supers to land the finishing blow with friends or across a unique, roguelike player campaign!”
Finally, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide for PS5 is probably my highlight of the month as I love the Warhammer: Vermintide co-op action game. Darktide is basically that, but with guns instead of swords. It’s just you, a few other players and heaps of foes to slaughter. It has a good Opencritic score of 75.
“Take back the city of Tertium from hordes of bloodthirsty foes in this intense and brutal action shooter. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the new four player co-op focused experience from the award-winning team behind the Vermintide series. Built on the legacy of Vermintide 2’s best-in-class melee combat, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide introduces intense WH40K gunplay to the mix. Master the balance between ranged and melee combat as you fight through a slew of enemies. Feel the impact of each swipe, swing, and slice of a chainsword, or fry some flesh with a lasgun.”
