With Forza Horizon 6 doing so well for itself, Playground Games was set to dominate 2026 by also launching Fable, but plans have been changed. Fable has been delayed.

Xbox’s official social media channels delivered the bad news, stating that “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves”

“We know this stings, but it won’t be much longer before you’re back in Albion making morally questionable decisions,” said the official Fable account, presumably while kicking a passing chicken.

On an episode of the official Xbox podcast released today, Matt Booty also confirmed the delay, but said that Fable is “in great shape” and “coming together well.” He reiterated that Xbox wants to give the game its own moment to shine.

Every cloud has a silver lining, though, so the Fable team also said that they have some “big Fable reveals” planned for Xbox’s June 7 showcase event.

Having been revealed waaaaaaaaay back in 2020, the wait for Fable has been a long one. But I can at least understand why Fable is being pushed back: this is a seriously packed year, and in Microsoft’s own post they reiterate that both Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved are coming out this year. And, of course, GTA is looming large.

But it’s still dissapointing news. I’ve got a lot of love for Fable and everything I’ve seen so far has shown promise, even if I’m not yet completely sure Playground can pull it off. Guess I’ll have to wait until February to find out.
