Treyarch have announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are going to be released for modern PlayStation.
They were not very forthcoming with details in their casual announcement on X, but let’s go through what we have: the ports are being handled by Iron Galaxy, will launch in July and will include multiplayer and zombies. They were not described as remakes or remasters, so do not expect any improvements or upgrades unless Iron Galaxy and Treyarch come along later and announce them.
Weirdly, they described the games as coming to PlayStation. They have not yet clarified if this means PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or just PlayStation 5. I would assume both because these are old games, so why limited them? But official confirmation would be nice.
If you’re wondering why there is no Xbox release, that’s because both games are still playable via the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program. This again reinforces the idea that these are just ports with nothing new added.
