Guns of Eschaton just dropped its announcement trailer, and what a way to grab some attention! A wild-west game set in a post-apocolyptic world of monsters, revolvers and flames. It’s going to release on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and the trailer says it’s “coming soon.”

A massive selling point is that this is the final game from Viktor Antanove, who sadly passed away in 2025. Antanov is responsible for some of the coolest worlds in videogame, from the whalepunk weirdness of Dishonored to Half-Life 2’s City 17.

The pitch is a “first-person Soulslike shooter” set in a cursed version of 19th-century America, which is already the kind of sentence that makes me grin. Instead of blasting through arenas at 400mph, Guns of Eschaton is promising slower, more deliberate combat where every bullet matters, enemies need to be studied and death is probably going to be a frequent travelling companion.

Eschatology Entertainment itself is a new studio, so Guns of Eschaton appears to be its debut game. That said, the team is not made up of people who accidentally wandered into game development after losing a bet. The studio includes former Wargaming developers and people connected to Lesser Evil Games, the team behind the grim and divisive RPG The Executioner. It has also raised serious funding, including investment led by Krafton, so this is not just a spooky trailer being held together with hope, a cursed revolver and three unpaid interns.

On the gameplay side, the announcement mentions more than 20 weapons, special ammunition, parries, dashes, occult abilities, talismans, armour and consumables. There’s also a hand-drawn Cherokee Codex that can reveal enemy behaviour and weaknesses, which sounds like a neat way of turning monster-hunting homework into an actual mechanic. Solo and co-op play are both planned, and there’s also mention of player-versus-player, so yes, someone may eventually invade your cowboy pilgrimage and ruin your entire afternoon.
