King Art has uploaded 15-minute skirmish match for the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War IV, giving us a gloriously uninterrupted look at how the game plays, pitting the Space Marines against a horde of Orks.

I love it when developers do something like this. And I especially love that the dialogue between the two players doesn’t feel overly scripted or artificial: they are informative and make sure to empart some key points, but otherwise feel like they’re having fun showing off their game and playing against each other.

The new video shows a full Space Marines versus Orks skirmish, with King Art using the match to explain how Dawn of War IV handles economy, map control, faction identity and match pacing. Among the more interesting details, Orks can apparently lean hard into “base crawling,” with most infantry able to build cheap, armed structures around the map, while Space Marines can bank units in orbital reserve before dropping them into battle. The developers also confirmed army painter support for Space Marine chapters, generic commanders for skirmish and multiplayer, and larger match types including 2v2, 3v3 and free-for-all battles that can last up to an hour.

I admit, I’m excited for this one, but I do have some doubts as well. With the original Dawn of War developers, Relic Entertainment, now independent, it’s King Art taking up the mantle, the team that previously created Iron Harvest, a fun but flawed RTS. Do they have what it takes to revive one of the best RTS titles of all time? We will find out on September 17.
